Stories Behind The Headset: The 2026 Calling All Heroes Digital Collection
When a call comes in at a 911 dispatch center, they have no idea what awaits them on the other end of the line. The dispatcher who answers is an unseen hero tasked with balancing chaos with calm, turning panic into action, and holding steady for those possibly navigating the worst day of their lives.
Even though dispatchers aren’t physically on the scene, they are the true first responders, and their vital work deserves our recognition.
Each April during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW), Diverse Computing hosts our annual Calling All Heroes initiative in honor of these heroes. We ask dispatchers across the United States to share their stories with us, offering a grand prize giveaway as a small token of our appreciation. Throughout the month, we also share these submissions across our social media channels to highlight these incredible professionals and celebrate NPSTW.
Every year, we are completely blown away by the responses. The stories we receive in return are nothing short of amazing, giving us an unfiltered look at life behind the headset. Because these stories are so powerful, we are always looking for the best ways to share them.
Following the massive response to our 2025 printed collection (Available on Amazon), we wanted to make this year’s stories accessible to as many people as possible.
