DCI Provides Much Needed Upgrades to the Message Switch for Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, California

Diverse Computing recently finished implementing a message switch at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in California.

The legacy message switch in place at HCSO made it difficult for officers to access data from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), California Law Enforcement Technology System (CLETS) and California Law Enforcement Warrant System (CLEWS). Users experienced issues with poor system reliability, inflated maintenance costs, and overall was non-compliance with the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policy.

HCSO contracted Diverse Computing to install our next-generation message switch, eAgent FUSE. This solution provided an integration platform for CJIS compliant message routing and resolved many of the headaches HCSO was facing.

Background

HCSO’s legacy switch was a home-grown system that was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. The system was no longer receiving updates and was challenging to interface with. HCSO users also had some reliability issues with dropped messages.

But the most concerning issue HCSO faced was the security of sensitive information. No longer CJIS compliant, the legacy switch was highly susceptible to security breaches and the subsequent release of critical data. With their legacy system programmer close to retirement, HCSO had no choice but to search for a new CJIS compliant system through a formal RFP process.

HCSO awarded us the project due to our long track record in successful CJIS compliant message switch implementations.

Outcome

Following the successful implementation of the eAgent FUSE system, HCSO saw immediate results, specifically with the reliability and speed of the new system.

Messages were no longer being dropped, and the users were delivering messages more quickly than they ever had before. The innovative and user-friendly interface cut out redundant data-entry users used to experience, and the flexibility of a browser solution has provided access to CJI from wherever users go.

The new eAgent FUSE system is now supported 24/7/365 and is constantly maintained and updated by Diverse Computing to ensure ongoing compliance with the CJIS security policy.
